We are focused on Jesus
If you divide the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) from the rest of the New Testament (Acts through Revelation), you will notice something very important - God dedicates nearly half of the New Testament to the story of Jesus. The presence Jesus has within the New Testament indicates to us the preeminent place that he should have within our lives. Those of us at the Mount Vernon Church of Christ therefore seek to make Jesus the focus of our lives by trying to better understand him so that we can adopt his values, standards, and attitudes as our own.
We are focused on family
We understand that the world often works against God's desires for families. We therefore try to provide a number of relevant supports and encouragements for our families. For example, we offer activities for our youth that address their spiritual needs through activities like Vacation Bible School and monthly devotionals while giving them opportunities for service and fun through such things as church and community-oriented service projects and annual trips to amusement parks.
Focused on our community
We believe that trying to be like Jesus also means that we have responsibilities to the community around us. We therefore seek to find ways of helping and engaging our community through things like the city-wide clean-up, our Tuesday School that we offer free to our community, and our annual Family Life Forum.
